This July, CASSS recognizes Sarcoma Awareness Month, created to help raise awareness of this disease and all the people affected by it. Due to a lack of awareness and understanding, efforts to encourage research and drug development has proven to be challenging. Considered to be a “forgotten cancer” because of its rarity, sarcoma makes up less than 1% of cancer diagnoses across all age groups. It is more prevalent in children than in adults and has two main forms: soft tissue sarcoma and bone sarcoma (osteosarcoma). Older adults are more affected by soft tissue sarcoma and children by bone sarcoma.
CASSS recognizes the dedication and commitment of its members in their efforts to combat cancer using techniques such as SWATH-MS for proteomic profiling of soft tissue sarcoma, and cancer detection and diagnosis systems such as the MasSpec Pen.
