CASSS is an agile, non-profit scientific community whose strength is bringing together professionals from industry, academia, and regulatory agencies to solve scientific and technical problems to advance the field of biopharmaceutical development and honored longtime volunteer Julia Edwards as a Distinguished Fellow.

Joe Kutza and the CASSS Board of Directors presented this lifetime membership award to Edwards on January 29, 2025, at the WCBP Symposium.

During her acceptance of this lifetime membership Julia shared, "I am truly honored to be recognized as a CASSS Distinguished Fellow. CASSS’ mission of fostering scientific dialogue and collaboration has been a guiding force throughout my career, and I have been privileged to be part of a community so deeply committed to advancing regulatory and analytical sciences in biopharmaceutical development. I am grateful to the CASSS Board of Directors, CASSS community, my family, and my colleagues at Genentech and Roche for their support. I look forward to continuing to engage with this incredible network to drive innovation and meaningful progress in biopharmaceutical science and Regulatory CMC.”

Edwards is currently the Senior Vice President and Global Head of Pharma Technical Regulatory (PTR) at Genentech, a Member of the Roche Group. Prior to her current role, Edwards held positions at both Biogen and Allergan, amassing more than 20 years of experience and leadership in Regulatory CMC. She has been a long-time contributor to and leader within the CASSS/WCBP Symposium community. As chair of the WCBP Symposium for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), she faced the unique challenge of creating a Special Edition WCBP program focused on the efforts and issues surrounding COVID-19, which culminated in the production of a whitepaper. The following year, she led the organizing committee to develop CASSS’s first in-person program post-COVID. Edwards also served on the CASSS Board of Directors for eight years, including roles as Vice President (2020–2022) and President (2022–2024). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
