World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign that is celebrated annually to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices among the public, One Health stakeholders and policymakers, who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.
AMR is happening here and now. The challenges of AMR are complex and multifaceted, and it is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security and development today.
The theme of WAAW 2022 is “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together”. WAAW calls on all sectors to encourage the prudent use of antimicrobials and to strengthen preventive measures addressing AMR, working together collaboratively through a One Health approach. This response to AMR will help save millions of lives, preserve antimicrobials for generations, and secure the future from drug-resistant pathogens.
