It is fitting that the first day of WCBP 2023, CASSS' premier knowledge-sharing event, coincides with the United Nations' International Day of Education. Established January 24, 2019 by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Education provides an annual opportunity to re-evaluate education in our lives, as well as to identify and address the issues of education in our society.
There are over 100,000 trade and professional associations in the United States and 7 out of every 10 adults belong to at least 1. Associations affect the quality of life of our society through their services, their guidelines, and their interactions with legal, regulative, and legislative processes. Associations are also the largest provider of adult education, after universities, in the U.S.
Beyond associations, the International Day of Education reminds us of the role education plays in breaking boundaries between cultures and countries and maintaining peace and equality.
Why International Day of Education is Important
The United Nations observes designated days, weeks, years, and decades, each with a theme, or topic. By creating special observances, the United Nations promotes international awareness and action on these issues. Each international day offers individuals and groups such as CASSS the opportunity to promote and organize activities related to the theme of the day.
Education is a Human Right
It’s as simple as that. Education is a human right. To deprive someone of this right is tragic, as it can make the difference between a turbulent or prosperous future.
Education is the Key to Sustainable Development
Without education, there cannot be persistent development. It is essential for helping societies evolve and develop.
Empowering Individuals
At the core of it, educating an individual means empowering them. It empowers them to think, generate ideas, set goals, and have a purpose.
Resources for You
Education is a human right, a public good, and a community responsibility. We, the members of CASSS, enjoy a privileged place of having achieved the highest levels of education. It is incumbent on us to use that position to make a difference. Consider what action you can take to make a positive impact on our world.
