The CE Pharm Award recognizes an individual for sustained and significant contributions to the practical application of capillary electrophoresis (CE) to the analysis of biotechnology and pharmaceutical products. It is awarded annually at the CASSS CE in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries: Symposium on the Practical Applications for the Analysis of Proteins, Nucleotides & Small Molecules (CE Pharm).
Robert Kennedy was selected by the CE Pharm Organizing Committee for his dedication, expertise, and influence in capillary electrophoresis. His research has combined his interest in biology with chemical analysis, separations, and microfluidics. A central theme of his group's work has been the development of new chemical analysis tools that can be applied at the nanoscale for various applications, including drug screening, enzyme engineering, neurotransmitter monitoring in the brain, and the study of insulin and hormone secretion. Key technical areas include ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography (LC), droplet microfluidics, and mass spectrometry.
CE Pharm provides an interactive forum for the discussion of CE in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including regulatory considerations. The forum also provides a venue for industrial CE practitioners to meet, network, and exchange knowledge for mutual education. This year’s meeting was held in Costa Mesa, CA from September 15-18, 2024.
The CE Pharm organizing committee appreciates Kennedy’s significant contributions to the field of bioanalytical chemistry and capillary electrophoresis. He has pushed the boundaries of how quickly measurements can be taken in various biological applications. His team has expanded beyond fused silica capillaries, transitioning to microfluidic chips to increase throughput and enhance portability.
