The Newsletter of Separation Science
Volume XIII, Issue 3, Autumn 2004
ear Colleagues and
Friends, In a previous President’s letter I mentioned that our European
colleagues established their own separation science society, EuSSS,
using CASSS as a model. Although still in its infancy, this new Society
is vibrant and integrates the chromatographic communities of many
European countries. Since we in CASSS feel like a kind of older brother
to EuSSS, we like to stay in close contact. Therefore, the CASSS Board
of Directors recently instituted a new committee for cooperation with
other separation societies, particularly with EuSSS. András Guttman, who
has extensive contacts with our counterparts both in this country and
abroad, generously agreed to chair this committee.
Simultaneously, we
established a relationship with the Journal of Separation Science (JSS).
Not a completely unexpected event since two Editors of the Journal (Joe
Pesek and I) are directors of CASSS. To introduce this Journal, I will
just mention that it is ranked third within the group of chromatographic
journals and has a rather high impact factor of 2.108. As a result of
this, JSS has recently been included in the Medline service. This
Journal has now agreed to publish CASSS news, our sponsors will have a
discounted access to advertising, and CASSS will get publicity all over
the world. Our logo has appeared on the outside front cover of the
Journal and on its web site with the link to CASSS site. Reciprocally,
we added a direct link to the Journal on our web site. We also obtained
a free subscription of the Journal that will be available to our members
for having a peek during the evening meetings. In addition, we will have
available take-home sample copies and other materials. Interested CASSS
members may obtain a personal subscription of JSS at a significantly
discounted rate of $280 for the printed or Internet versions. You can
get a combined subscription for $310. A bargain for almost 2000 pages of
the first class scientific information in 18 issues. If you cannot wait
to see the printed Journal, just log in immediately.
Your President,

Frantisek Svec
